I Realized I Had Yarn Boredom
Yarn Boredom? What does that even mean? The realization of the meaning happened for me this weekend on a visit to a local yarn store.
This Saturday, I went with my brother to the West Side Market in Cleveland, Ohio. I had never been there and really wanted to see what they had. It was located about ten minutes from one of my favorite yarn stores, coincidentally 😉
This yarn store is located in Lakewood, Ohio and I never go there unless I’m with my brother. The west side of Cleveland is not a place I frequent alone. The store is River Colors Studio. It is located at 1387 Sloane Ave. Lakewood, Ohio.
I love it.
Last year on the Yarn Discovery Tour I found this store and have been back three times since. It is my favorite. Why? Let me tell you.
First, it is huge. It is the biggest yarn store I have ever been to.
Second, the variety of products is amazing. But there is something at every price point of every fiber content you could imagine. So, to me, this store is for everyone.
Third, the people who work there are nice. They don’t bombard you but still approach you. So, if you need help or not, they jump right on it or let you be. I like that.
They also have two large places for people to sit and work on projects. I always see someone there working on something. Because of these things, it is just a comfortable place to spend time.
So, what does all this have to do with yarn boredom? Well, while I was visiting the store this weekend, I was approached by another customer.
When I was looking at some lace weight merino yarn, the woman behind me said, “What are you going to make with that?”
Turning around, I looked at her and said unenthusiastically, “I was thinking about doing some needlework with it.” Not exactly the answer she was expecting to hear in a yarn store full of knitting needles and patterns.
She said, “Yeah, I think I’m suffering from yarn boredom.” Thinking for a second, and it only took a second to realize, “same.” She smiled when I said that and we both walked away from the shelves with nothing.
So, I realized then that I didn’t even want to look at yarn. Maybe I better stop buying yarn to buy yarn and use up what I already have.
